Programs & Initiatives - Rumble for the Jungle
Most of the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country two-thirds the size of Europe with a population of more than 60 million people, is without a reliable source of electricity. This means that hospitals in the Congo are often without the electricity needed to carry out the most basic of hospital functions. Generators are capable of providing a reliable source of electricity to a hospital. However, the diesel fuel that generators require is both expensive and often unavailable.
The Rumble for the Jungle initiative is an effort to bypass the problem of securing diesel fuel to power generators. Instead, Congo BioMed seeks to develop a sustainable system of bio-fuel operated generators for hospitals in the most remote regions of the Congo. Bio-fuels, such as palm oil and peanut oil (both of which are inexpensive and easily obtained in the Congo) may one day revolutionize the way that hospitals function in the remotest of areas.
With this initiative, our hope is to bring the rumble of a generator to the far reaches of the jungle, and with it the life saving electricity that health centers and hospitals need.
